ASBU Global Migration Research Center (ASBU-GAUM) was established in 2019 under the leadership of ASBU migration scholars in order to carry out academic research on past and current internal and international migration. ASBU Global Migration Research Center is working together with different academic departments, government institutions and other research centers to collect data, disseminate research results and help identify key trends, drivers and dynamics of migration issues and policies related to Turkey. One of the key objectives of the center is to conduct migration research from an interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approach and contribute to policy development. The Center will be open to graduate students, young scholars as well as senior scholars affiliated with the Master’s Degree in Migration Studies in ASBU. Another aim of ASBU-GAUM is to organize workshops, expert meetings and conferences in Ankara and publish op-eds, essays, conference proceedings and other academic papers related to migration studies. Besides its specific focus on Turkey and its immediate environment, which have been both places of emigration and immigration, ASBU-GAUM aims to enhance the connection at the national level between civil society actors, international organizations, and government on different migration issues and shape ongoing academic debates at the international level by contributing to the existing migration literature both theoretically and empirically. Some of the important subject matters are human smuggling and trafficking in persons, transit migration, labor migration and remittances, diaspora studies, migration and development, gender and migration, international students in Turkey, integration of migrants and refugees, and root causes and effects of these displacement processes.
